美国游戏公司“动视暴雪”（Activision Blizzard），因香港电竞选手“聪哥”在暴雪旗下游戏《炉石战记》比赛中，宣传反送中抗争，而没收“聪哥”的累积奖金并禁赛1年，甚至访问“聪哥”的两名赛事主播也遭暴雪开除，引起游戏界震撼。而推出知名游戏“要塞英雄”（Fortnite）的游戏商Epic Games创办人Tim Sweeney对此表示，虽然中国科技巨头腾讯拥有Epic Games近半股权，该公司仍允许电竞玩家表达支持香港的言论。

Sweeney并称，若知名玩家如Tfue等在“要塞英雄”的竞赛赛后访问中，表达支持香港，Epic Games也不会做出任何惩处。
不过，有网友质疑Epic Games的决策，恐受大量投资该公司的中国腾讯影响，Sweeney对此回应，Epic Games是一家美国公司，而自己是控股股东，腾讯的持股约40％，且股东组成还包括其他投资者和员工。Sweeney表示，虽然40％的持股很多，但自己作为公司创始人、首席执行官和控股股东，“在我的看管下，公司永远不会和玩家，或和有影响力的人物断绝关系”。
Sweeney更称，Epic Games支持所有人的言论自由权，“要塞英雄”的中国玩家，也能向他人一样自由批评美国或Epic Games。
而Epic Games去年推出的商城，遭爆收集用户个资，外界怀疑此事件背后，和握有Epic Games达48.4%股份的腾讯有关，尽管Epic Games商城领导人Steve Allison已澄清，腾讯对该公司业务没有任何干涉。
